When Ι first listened to Meden Agan, I was in the front of a small stage of a club in Athens. And I was left speechless. They are a real band, with a real connection between the band members. Iliana is one of the most excellent vocalists, and one of my most beloved among with Floor Jansen and Tarja Turunen. When I was leaving Athens, I was sad because the “dream” was over. I was getting bored with the female-fronted metal scene. There was nothing special for me, nothing to impress me anymore. And then, there was a miracle. (That’s how I will call this band: a miracle). Meden Agan will make you scream, head bang a lot, cry, and feel until you will end up singing your lungs out along with Iliana. She is an excellent front woman: no vocal mistakes, no words that she does not mean, no arrogance. She is giving her soul onstage. The other members (guitarist Diman, bassist and male vocalist Aris, and keyboardist Tolis were also very concentrated on what they were doing and giving us their best performances possible. A few days ago I got Meden Agan’s first promo CD, and I was really thrilled. The first song, “Tribute to Life,” has an amazing intro and some choir. It’s obvious that Tolis did his work very well in that song. Meden Agan show us that they came to stay. Next is “Dissolve into Grey,” a song that is very well known among their fans. In that song, Diman gives us a very memorable guitar solo. He is a great guitar player, after all. The third song is titled “All Seems Lost.” I was hooked on that song for a long time, and I still like it so much. That song is their most well known. Here are the lyrics from its chorus: “Leave this world behind / Seek the outer boundaries of life / No more tears to hide / Feeling free to confide.” True words. There is also an amazing solo from Diman in this song.
The next track is “Black Sky.” I was always calling that song their Nightwish song – and not in a bad way. The guitars remind me so much of Emppu Vuorinen, the keys remind me so much Tuomas Holopainen, and Iliana is singing in a very high level, like Tarja Turunen did when she was with Nightwish. But, Meden Agan are not Nightwish wanabees. Meden Agan are fans of Nightwish and Tarja, and they are not ashamed of that. The last song is named “From the Ashes (of Sin).” That song has one simple aim: to make you head bang until your head will be ripped from the rest of your body. That song contains many different parts. In some parts, the rhythm is slow; and in some other parts, the speed of the playing is very high. When all those parts are accompanied by great brutal vocals, the result is really interesting.
As I have already said, Meden Agan came to stay. Adore them, and support them. They are worth it. I believe that someday they will be a huge band like their idols.Rating 10 / 10
