Elis Interview
Performed via Skype in August 2011
Elis

Longtime fans of female-fronted metal need no introduction to the Liechtenstein gothic metal band Elis, whose line-up has remained virtually unchanged since its early days: Pete Streit (guitars), Tom Saxer (bass, additional vocals), Max Näscher (drums) and Chris Gruber (guitars). “Virtually” being, of course, the operative word. On 16 June 2011, Elis announced that Swiss vocalist, Simone Christinat (Legenda Aurea), would be joining Elis as their new vocalist.

Sonic Cathedral’s Robin Stryker chatted with Simone -- on her birthday of all days (sorry about that, Simone) -- about all things Elis. Read on to learn more about the muse behind the mic!

Intemperia Interview
Performed via Skype in July 2011

Imagine a female-fronted hard rock band – then add healthy doses of power metal, keyboards and electronic elements, and strong melodies. That’s what you can expect from Intemperia. This young female-fronted band from Caracas, Venezuela is gaining popularity in their local metal scene because of their unique sound, enthusiastic live shows, and the exceptional quality of their recordings. And with the recent release of their first full-length album The Mothman Prophecies, Intemperia is starting to receive the same recognition from other areas of the world. (Just goes to show that the Internet is a powerful means of spreading the word!)

Intemperia

Recently, Sonic Cathedral staff writer Sara Letourneau talked with Intemperia singer Juls Sosa and guitarist Carlos Robles (and Juls’ dog!) for Intemperia’s first English-language interview. The following conversation proved to be highly entertaining and emotionally revealing. So, would you like to know more about Intemperia’s history? Or, where they got the idea for the album title? Or, why it took Intemperia three long years to complete The Mothman Prophecies? Then, you ought to read on to discover more about this resilient and hard-working band from South America.

Bare Infinity Interview
Performed via Skype in August 2011
Bare Infinity

Hailing from Greece, Bare Infinity is a symphonic/power metal band with five members: Sverd (bass, brutal vocals), George (drums), Tomas (guitars), Constantine (keyboards) and Angel (vocals). They are also a band that have had their share of upheaval and setbacks during the past few years: parting ways with their original vocalist Christianna (now with Elysion) during the record of Bare Infinity’s debut album Always Forever, the departure of their longtime keyboardist Vincent, and the eleventh-hour cancelation of their appearance at Metal Female Voices Fest due to a family emergency.

But now, Bare Infinity is back and stronger than ever with their EP, The Passage, which combines Angel’s mixture of power, opera and melodic vocals with soaring keyboards and heavy guitar riffs to deliver a sound that is warmer, richer and more textured than Always Forever. Sonic Cathedral’s Robin Stryker chatted with Angel Wolf-Black about Bare Infinity’s new album, femme fatales, the muses that move her, and much more. Dive in for a closer look!

Regardless of Me 2011 Interview
Performed via email in June 2011

If any female-fronted metal band has recently undergone a musical metamorphosis, that band would have to be Regardless Of Me. The Italian quartet had a gothic-friendly alternative metal sound on its 2009 debut album, The World Within. However, after numerous live shows to promote the first album, Regardless Of Me decided to shake things up. Keep Pamela Manzo’s hypnotic melodies? Check. Speed things up? Check. Add death grunts, more aggressive riffs, and even more technicality? Double check! And now, all the experimenting has resulted in Regardless Of Me’s second album, Pleasures and Fear, which was released in Europe at the end of May.

Regardless of Me

Sonic Cathedral staff writer Sara Letourneau recently talked with Emiliano Sicilia, who is Regardless Of Me’s founder, guitarist, grunter, and main composer. The two discussed Pleasures and Fear, the band’s shift in style, playing shows outside Italy, and even Madonna and Iron Maiden. Wait – what in the world do the Material Girl and one of the world’s greatest heavy metal bands have to do with an up-and-coming melodic industrial death metal act? You’ll have to read on to find that out!
